Rankdawn documentation

Everything you need to start tracking how ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity talk about your brand, and to get recommended more often. Read it top to bottom in about ten minutes, or jump to a section.

More buyers now ask AI assistants which product to choose instead of searching Google. Rankdawn shows you whether those assistants recommend your brand, who they recommend instead, and exactly what to change so they pick you. This practice is called Generative Engine Optimization, or GEO.

  • Measure your visibility across AI engines with one number, the GEO Score.
  • Understand which buyer questions you win and lose, and which competitors are cited instead.
  • Improve with prioritised, ready-to-ship recommendations written for your site.

You can go from sign-up to your first GEO Score in a few minutes.

  1. 1

    Create your account

Sign up with email or Google at rankdawn.com/signup. No card is needed for the Free plan.
  2. 2

    Add your brand info

Paste your website URL. Rankdawn reads your site and pre-fills your brand name and description so you only need to check them.
  3. 3

    Describe your customers

Say who buys from you and the problem you solve. The more specific you are, the more realistic your tracked queries will be.
  4. 4

    Pick your competitors

Choose the brands you most often lose to. We suggest likely ones based on your market.
  5. 5

    Run your first scan

Rankdawn writes your queries, asks each AI engine, and opens your dashboard with your first GEO Score and recommendations.
  1. 1

    Brand info

Website URL, brand name and what you do. Paste the URL and we auto-fill the rest.

  2. 2

    Customers

Who buys from you and the problem you solve. This shapes your queries.

  3. 3

    Competitors

Pick the brands you lose deals to. Suggestions are pre-filled.

  4. 4

    First scan

Queries are written, AI engines are asked, and your dashboard fills in.

Onboarding has four steps. Every website you add later goes through the same four.

A scan is the core of Rankdawn. It asks AI engines the same questions your buyers ask, then reads every answer to see if and how your brand appears.

GEO Score, citations and fixes to make

Every scan runs your queries through each AI engine on your plan and turns the answers into a score.
  • Your queries are sent to each AI engine on your plan as a real user would ask them.
  • Every answer is checked for your brand and your competitors, including the sources it links to.
  • Results are combined into your GEO Score, your citations list, competitor share and new recommendations.

The GEO Score is a single number from 0 to 100 that sums up how visible your brand is in AI answers for your tracked queries. It updates after every scan, so you can watch it move week by week.

The GEO Score is a 0 to 100 number. Citation rate carries 70% of the weight, prominence carries 30%.

How to read it

  • 0 to 20: AI engines rarely mention you. Start with the top recommendations.
  • 20 to 50: You show up for some queries. Close the content gaps to widen coverage.
  • 50 and above: You are a regular recommendation. Defend your position against competitors.

Queries (also called prompts) are the questions Rankdawn asks AI engines on your behalf, such as “best churn analytics tool for SaaS”. They are written from your brand info, your customers and your market, so they match what real buyers type.

AI-generated from your brand infoYour own prompts (Pro)
Each square is one tracked query. Generated queries are written from your brand info; custom ones are added by you.
  • Free: 10 queries generated from your brand info, scanned every week.
  • Pro: 15 generated queries plus up to 5 of your own, for 20 in total.
  • Suggested: after each weekly scan, Rankdawn proposes 5 new queries based on gaps it found. Pro users can add any of them in one click.
  • Pause or delete any query from the Prompts page. Paused queries are skipped until you turn them back on.

Changes apply to the next scan

Add, pause or delete prompts at any time. The next weekly scan always uses the list as it is at that moment.

A citation is an AI answer that names your brand. The Citations page lists every answer from the latest scan, grouped by query and engine, so you can read exactly what was said about you and which sources the engine relied on.

  • See which engine cited you and for which query.
  • Read the full answer to understand how you are described.
  • Spot the sources AI engines trust, so you know where to be mentioned next.

Competitors are the brands you want to beat in AI answers. Rankdawn tracks them through every scan and shows how often each is recommended compared with you, and on which queries they win.

  • Free tracks 1 competitor. Pro tracks up to 5 per website.
  • Add or remove competitors any time from the Competitors page. They are included from the next scan.
  • Use the queries a competitor wins as a shortlist of content to create.

After each scan, Rankdawn compares your site with the answers AI engines gave and writes specific fixes, each with a priority and the exact copy or structure to add. Content gaps highlight topics competitors are cited for where you have no page at all.

  1. 1

    Start with high priority

These fixes address the queries closest to citing you.
  2. 2

Ship the change on your site

Copy the suggested text or structure, then publish it.
  3. 3

    Mark it done

Completed fixes move out of your list, and the next scan shows the effect.

Free includes 3 recommendations a week and 1 content gap. Pro includes unlimited of both.

Everything lives in the dashboard. Each page answers one question about your AI visibility.

The weekly loop. You never need to start a scan yourself; Pro can also re-scan on demand.
  • Automatic scans run every Sunday at 11pm UTC for every website on your account.
  • Each scan uses your current queries and competitors, including anything you changed during the week.
  • Pro users can also re-scan on demand from the dashboard, for example right after shipping a fix.
  • You also get a short email when you add a competitor or a new website.

Pro lets you track 2 websites. Each one is completely separate: its own brand info, queries, competitors, recommendations, score history and weekly scan.

  1. 1

    Add a website

Open the website switcher at the top of the sidebar and choose Add website, or go to Settings then Sites.
  2. 2

    Complete the same four steps

Brand info, customers, competitors and first scan, exactly like your first site.
  3. 3

    Switch between websites

Pick a site in the sidebar switcher or click Switch to this site in Settings. Every page then shows that site only.

My GEO Score is 0. Is something broken?

No. A score of 0 means no AI engine named your brand in any tracked answer this week, which is common for new or niche brands. Start with the top recommendation and check again after the next weekly scan.

Why did my score drop this week?

AI answers change from week to week, and a competitor may have published content that now gets cited instead. Open Citations and Competitors to see which queries you lost and who took them.

How long before changes show up?

Engines that search the web, like Perplexity, can pick up new pages within days. Others update more slowly, so expect steady progress over a few weekly scans rather than overnight jumps.

A website says “isn’t set up yet”. What do I do?

Setup for that site was left before the first scan. Click Finish setup in the banner to resume exactly where you stopped.

Can I change the queries Rankdawn tracks?

Yes. Pause or delete any query on the Prompts page. Pro users can also add up to 5 of their own or pick from Suggested. The next scan uses whatever list is active.
